image Christopher Teale Howes, Kit to his friends, spent 31 years in the fire service. In 1976 he joined Del-Trail Fire Control District 9 in southern Palm Beach County, Florida. In 1984 Del-Trail and other district departments merged to form Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, now a nationally recognized metro-sized department. During his tenure in the fire service, Howes worked his way up from rookie firefighter to driver operator, then company officer, and finally chief officer. Along the way he earned an AS degree in Fire Science, a BS in Human Resource Management, and successfully completed the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy.

Upon retirement in 2007, Chief Howes moved to Tennessee where he continues to remain involved in his community and the fire service, volunteering for his local fire company and working as a part-time fire instructor for the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy. He continues to pursue other interests, including writing, travelling, and training for a private pilot's license.
